The Jewry Wall site contains the remains of the Roman baths, excavated by Kathleen Kenyon and her team in 1933-6, although the standing wall (the actual Jewry Wall) had become celebrated already amongst antiquaries. The baths consisted of a series of rooms, hot and cold, the hot heated by hypercausts, followed by an exercise hall (palaestra) of which the Jewry Wall is the remaining structure. The forum (loosely market place) is located under the Holiday Inn.
